| The photographers and writers | ||
| Manon Ott & Grégory Cohen Manon and Grégory are both photographers and documentary film-makers. They work together on a number of projects and live in Paris. As well as social science research into the popular uprising of 1988 in Burma and the « underground » resistance movements led by artists and intellectuals in Rangoon, they are trained in photography and documentary film production. Manon’s first film, “Yu”, which was a black and white documentary on the lonely path travelled by Yu, a young, Burmese asylum seeker who had just arrived in Paris, was selected in several international festivals including Cinéma du reel and FIPA. Grégory produced the film “Petits aménagements avec l’Occident”, a documentary which follows a Buddhist monk living in France and the combining of two cultures and the misunderstandings which arise on a day to day basis They are currently working together on a film called « Behind the temples of modern India » (colour documentary, 90 mins) on the issue of populations displaced by the construction of large dams in India and a film about Burma. Their combination of training has led them down the photography documentary and cinema route and the resulting images have inspired them to think about the contemporary challenges to society, to think about the role of images and the question of viewpoint, being in the position of the person holding a particular point of view and his relationship with the Other. In 2003, they founded the organisation Les yeux dans le monde along with other photographers and film-makers. Contacts : manon@lesyeuxdanslemonde.org greg@lesyeuxdanslemonde.org | ||
